FEES AND PAYMENTS
Q: DO I HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT IF I JOIN?
A: No. We offer a "no-contract" month-to-month plan in which you pay monthly by automatic debit to your checking account; with this plan you can cancel at any time with written notice to staff. We also offer a "no-contract" three month plan, in which you pay in full at signing for the three months; this plan can be renewed indefinitely. These "no-contract" plans are slightly higher in cost than the contracted plans, and the longer the contracted plan the lower the cost.
Q: DOES THE MONTHLY PAYMENT HAVE TO BE DEBITED OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT?
A: No. We can also bill any credit card, but you will pay a small monthly processing fee.
Q: CAN I PAY MONTHLY BY BRINGING YOU CASH OR A CHECK?
A: No, this is too burdensome a bookkeeping task for staff who want to devote their time and attention to your exercise needs. However, if you are on any annual plan, you are allowed to pay quarterly by check or cash.
Q: IS THERE A SAVINGS TO ME IF I PAY MY ANNUAL PLAN IN FULL WHEN I SIGN-UP?
A: Yes. You will save at least $50 off of the total membership price, if you pay in full.
Q: WHAT IF I GET SICK AND CAN'T COME IN TO EXERCISE?
A: You can request that your membership be placed on hold (i.e. billing is stopped) due to medical reasons; you submit your doctor's note, with the specific medical reason for the hold stated, and with a specific beginning and end date. Your billing can be stopped until you are medically able to return to exercising.
Q: CAN I STOP MY BILLING IF I GO ON A LONG VACATION OR WANT TO STAY AT HOME DURING THE SUMMER?
A: Yes. As an Empower Fitness member on any annual plan, you have the privilege of "freezing" your membership for up to two months of any calendar year for any reason. You submit your request in writing by the 15th of the month PRIOR to the month(s) you wish to freeze. (...by the way, all new members are given a written copy of our policies when they join!)
Q: WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO BREAK MY CONTRACT AND STOP COMING TO THE GYM?
A: You have a 72-hour period after signing your agreement to change your mind and cancel your agreement without any penalty to you. Beyond that time, there are two reasons for terminating your contract without penalty: permanent disability or change of permanent residence greater than 25 miles away. In the event of disability (MD verified) or moving away, you submit notice of cancellation in writing and ensure its delivery to Empower Fitness. If you want to cancel your contract for any other reason, you must also submit your request in writing. You are responsible, however, to pay an early contract termination penalty fee amounting to 50% of your remaining contract balance.
Q: WHAT IF YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS? WILL I GET MY MONEY BACK?
A: Yes. Empower Fitness is a licensed fitness facility with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and, for the protection of our members, we maintain a "surety bond" that will repay members' monies due in the event of any unplanned closing.
Q: WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE PAY FOR MY GYM MEMBERSHIP?
A: Maybe. Empower Fitness is a certified provider in several insurance networks, so we encourage each new member to contact their insurance provider directly for information particular to her policy. Some insurance providers (like "Silver & Fit" or "Healthways Prime") cover the full cost of membership, and several other providers give the member reimbursement after documented gym use. We are committed to working with our members to provide any needed information for reimbursement.
Q: WHAT IF I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY BILLING OR MEMBERSHIP PLAN AFTER I JOIN?
A: Empower Fitness is managed directly by its owners, who are local residents. The owners handle complaints personally and promptly; though all staff are also well-trained in our policies and procedures, and can usually answer members' questions. The owner-manager, who is usually on site daily, welcomes all member feedback (it helps us grow and improve!).
Q: CAN MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER JOIN AT A REDUCED RATE? WHAT ABOUT A STUDENT?
A: Yes. We have a special student membership (minimum age is 13) for any dependent child under the age of 18 OR for any full-time student (adult students must present college ID). This plan is a "no-contract, no enrollment fee" four month plan that is very reasonably priced.
Q: ARE CLASSES FREE?
A: Most classes we offer (over 50%) are free to members. The only classes which charge a fee are the "specialty" classes, in which an instructor with specific training is paid to teach the class. These specialty classes include, for example, Pilates, Hatha Yoga, Ballroom Dance, Tai Chi, and Group Personal Training. However, even with specialty classes, fees are reduced for members.
Q: DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO TAKE CLASSES OR GET A MASSAGE?
A: No. Non-members are welcome to enroll in any class or to schedule a massage.
Q: ARE MEN WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY SERVICE?
A: Yes. Men are welcome to schedule a massage, to enroll in certain classes (Tai Chi, Yoga, Ballroom Dance, Meditation), or to be your guest free of charge at any health education workshop.
Q: CAN MY GUEST WHO IS VISITING ME FROM OUT OF TOWN COME IN TO EXERCISE WITH ME? WHAT IS THE FEE?
A: Yes. As part of our "Member Appreciation Program", all your out-of-town guests are welcome to come in with you to exercise FREE of charge for the duration of their visit with you.
